Hearing - Plants that sound
Opposite the main entrance on the right
Planting with rustling leaves and seed heads. Late spring bulbs amongst grasses (Tulips, Allium and Camassia) added for shape contrast and colour) and pollinator friendly plants to invite buzzing insects.
Some plants attract buzzing bees, others such as ornamental grasses sound when the wind blows through them. For the bees, we have rock roses, tulips, ‘Purple Sensation’ allium, Michelmas Daisies and Late Summer Anemone.
Plants that sound in the wind include Wild Hyacinth, and three types of ornamental grasses.
Several plants produce bell shaped flowers which sound in the wind. These include Sicilian honey garlic, wild and grape hyacynths
